Carlotta Maitland-Smith Fine Art
Carlotta has travelled the world taking beautiful photographs. She trained at SPEOS - Paris International Photographic Institute and ICP - International Centre of Photography, New York. Currently based in London Carlotta specialises in Environmental Portraiture and Travel reportage focusing on Indigenous Communities. Here she show cases some of her Art works.
In 2003 Carlotta spent 3 months in Namibia taking pictures for a charity. Whenever the moment allowed she would escape into the Namibian desert with her 3200 black and white film that she chose for it's extra grainy effect. Here she would study the movement of the dunes and record the shadows and shapes created by the wind and the sun on the sand.
Carlotta has had several exhibitions in London and Italy selling her Award Winning travel pictures. This series of 'sand' was taken as part of an exploration of texture. Printed on carefully selected Hahnemühle FineArt German Etching paper the texture of the paper compliments the texture of the sand giving a beautiful finish. These images blur the distinction between the figurative and the landscape giving them an intrigue that endures.
