Allan is a photographer based in Sydney Australia. He has been nurturing and developing his photography since 1978 when he traveled to Europe and returned overland via the middle east, the sub-continent and south-east Asia. He has a strong love for Australia, its rich landscapes, its vast outback and its huge coastline of sheer cliffs to wide open beaches. Allan travels to Outback Australia each year as the official photographer for the Outback Car Trek, a fund raiser for the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia. In this role and in his private work he tries to capture the essence of place as well as the many and varied characters he travels with and meets on his journeys. Allan has won many awards for his work including the Time Magazine international competition called "The Essence of Australia".
Allan's work covers a very wide range of subject matter from environmental portraiture, landscapes, photojournalism, sport and more recently his paint series which is featured in this gallery. The paint series includes images of Sydney's iconic Bondi Beach which is only a few kilometres from where Allan lives. It is probably the most photographed beach in Australia. The Bondi images have been photographed during the last hour of sunlight. It is the magic hour. Allan's approach has been to capture the warmth and depth of colour, and movement of water and people to produce semi-abstract painterly type images.
